What is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a scheme introduced by the Government in 2014 that allows eligible children between the ages of 2 and 17 to have access to basic dental services to the value of $1000, from a private Dentist. Treatments available under the Benefits include examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions. Orthodontic and cosmetic treatments are excluded from the Benefits. The $1000 limit is available for use over two consecutive calendar years of eligibility.
Is my child eligible for Child Dental Benefits?
To be eligible for the scheme, the child or the child’s parent must be receiving one of the specified Government payments – for example, Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, Youth Allowance, Carer Payment etc. A full list of the eligibility requirements is on the Department of Human Resources/Medicare website. Eligible families should receive a letter from Medicare confirming eligibility. Even if you have not received a letter, you can find out eligibility through your Medicare online account at myGov or by calling Medicare on 132 011.
How do I claim the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

Make sure to inform the staff member upon booking that it is to be covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
